Auto-Installing Browser Extensions

Kameleo allows you to load browser extensions into your browser profiles. This can be useful for adding functionality such as ad blockers, password managers, or other productivity tools.

Download Extension File (.crx / .xpi)

To auto-install a browser extension to a Kameleo profile you will need to download the extension file (.crx or .xpi) first.

Chrome / Edge (.crx)

  1. Open the extension’s page on the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Copy the extension’s URL.
  3. Use an online downloader (for example, CRX Extractor) to download the .crx file.

Firefox (.xpi)

  1. Visit the Firefox Add-ons page.
  2. Open the extension you want and download the .xpi file directly.

Loading the Extension in Kameleo

  1. Click the three dots on the profile card and choose Edit.
  2. In the Edit view, open Advanced Settings.
  3. Click the Browser section, then:

3.1. If the profile uses Chroma (Chrome-based): click the Chrome extensions button and select the .crx file (or packed CRX3) you downloaded.

3.2. If the profile uses Junglefox (Firefox-based): click the Firefox extensions button and select the .xpi file you downloaded.

  4. Confirm the extension was added: a file path will appear (for example: C:\Users\Computer\Desktop\test.crx).
  5. Click Save to keep the change, or Save & Start to save the profile and launch it immediately.

  6. The extension will load automatically when the profile starts.

Set an Extension as Default

If you want the extension to load automatically for every new profile, add it by:

  1. Opening Settings from the left menu.
  2. Go to Default Profile Settings → Customize Settings

  3. Click the Browser section.
  4. Click Chrome extensions (for Chroma) or Firefox extensions (for Junglefox) and select the extension file you want to load by default.
  5. Click Save to apply the changes.

If you are creating profiles through the API, you may use your own unpacked extension. Package it into a CRX3 file and pass the file path in the profile configuration.
