Missing Profiles
After upgrading to Kameleo 4.0 or newer, some users may notice that their previously created local profiles no longer appear in the application. This can happen for two different reasons, depending on when the profiles were created and last used.
Workspace Folder Location Change (All Users)
Starting from Kameleo 4.0, the default Workspace folder location was changed:
New location (Kameleo 4.0+):
C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Kameleo
Old location (pre-4.0):
C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\Programs\Kameleo
The installer is designed to automatically migrate existing profiles from the old location to the new one. However, in rare cases, this migration may not complete correctly, which can make profiles appear missing even though the data still exists. So here is what to do:
- Check whether the Workspace folder still exists at "C:\Users<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\Programs\Kameleo"
- If it exists, make a full backup of the old Workspace folder before doing anything else.
- After backing it up, copy or move the Workspace folder to: "C:\Users<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Kameleo"
- Restart Kameleo and check if the profiles appear.
Profiles Created Before v3.1.0 (Legacy Profile Format)
If your profiles were created before Kameleo v3.1.0 and were never started in v3.1.1 or any later version, an additional issue may apply. If you need immediate access to these profiles, use one of the following options.
Option A: Use an Older Kameleo Version
- Download Kameleo 3.4.4
- Install and launch it
- Check whether the profiles appear and start correctly
Option B: Restore Profiles to the Old Workspace Location
Since the 4.0.0 installer likely moved your profiles from the old location to the new one:
- Back up your current Workspace folder from: "C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Kameleo"
- Copy the Workspace folder to the old location: "C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\Programs\Kameleo"
- Launch Kameleo 3.4.4 and access the profiles from there
Once opened in a newer 3.x version, these profiles are typically updated to a compatible format.
Option C: Incremental upgrade to restore legacy profiles
If you want to restore and use these profiles in the latest Kameleo version, you can upgrade them incrementally:
- Install Kameleo 3.4.4
- Launch it and upgrade all the new profiles.
- Close Kameleo 3.4.4
- Install Kameleo 4.0.0
- Launch it and upgrade the profiles again to complete the final upgrade.
This step-by-step upgrade process ensures that very old profiles are converted properly and remain compatible with Kameleo 4.x.
